In America you can "adopt a highway". In 1985 Bobby Evans, an engineer with the Dept. of Transportation, thought of using volunteers to clean the roads. Volunteer work reduced the rubbish by 54%. The volunteers work 4 times a year for two years. They pick up the rubbish, keep their country beautiful and save the Dep. of Transportation a lot of money.
